MARCH 2021

Dear Supporter and Member:

It is with great excitement that I announce the launch of our Pontiac Marketing & Promotions Bureau (PMB) website. Over the last few years as a committee and coalition, we have worked to bridge the gap of communication, marketing, promotion, and support for the activities and image of our great city, the business community, and residents. Needless to say, we have had to meet many challenges, obstacles, and objectives in our effort to be as inclusive, informative, and current as possible. All with a committed effort that we could and would meet the needs of our members, residents, supporters, and businesses. Your input, ideas, suggestions, and feedback have been most valuable to the success of this project – the development of our website.

We all can support, The Pontiac Marketing & Promotions Bureau (PMB) website, and we hope it will long reflect our GPCC and Committee of 50 Coalition’s positive image. This (PMB) website is properly segmented with useful information designed to be helpful to our youth, seniors, businesses, community residents, visitors, colleges, universities, and more. This site will host a section for input, opinions, an area for good news and achievements, a section with an opportunity to advertise events or gain marketing support. The Pontiac Marketing & Promotions Bureau (PMB) in the Loop will reach your targeted audience and limit duplication. This website will grow as we grow and become a vital tool to ALL. We will be able to share:

  • News of new and upcoming businesses moving in our city. Words and messages from our city leaders, corporate executives, local residents, and Board of Education members.
  • The Lorene Phillips Scholarship information center will highlight scholarships and educational opportunities.
  • The Michigan Workforce section will identify state-wide programs.
  • A section on Leadership Training by the Oakland University/Pontiac Initiative, themed Hubert M. Price Jr. Leadership Symposium and as if that is not enough information on many of the non-profit social services available to the community.
  • Health News and information
  • A section for churches to promote their ministry social service activity.
  • Resident and community groups/announcements.
  • A Bi-Lingual section from LaAmistad
  • Identify what’s Happening On Main Street so we can visit, shop, and relax downtown.

To say I am excited is a small expression of my enthusiasm for the work of our communication committee. They did a GREAT JOB, so thanks, Theresa, Tom, Glen, Lisa, David, and Julia, for your lead and accomplishment.

Dear Supporter and Member:

Are you in the LOOP? Are you telling your story? Storytelling is a powerful way to make an impact on your audience, controlling your narrative and promoting your business – no matter the subject, no matter the community. The Pontiac Marketing & Promotions Bureau (PMB) seeks to provide a community medium for the Marketing, Promotional and Public Relation Business Professionals (PR), alongside Community Leaders to effectively voice their accomplishments, success stories, job opportunities, project development announcements, and other local news.

We envision a support system that promotes the continued growth and development of the City of Pontiac. In particular, the revitalization of downtown Pontiac, the Historic District, Suburbs, Businesses, Schools, Community groups religious organizations, and entrepreneurs from each side of the City. The PMB offers to act as the extended arm within the Greater Pontiac Community Coalition’s nonprofit economic development organization and The Committee of 50 to help increase visibility, accessibility, tourism, and proper representation in support of Pontiac Businesses, the City of Pontiac, Residents, and other surrounding communities within Oakland County.

PMB has a membership crafted to cultivate the Marketing and Promotional community within the City of Pontiac and throughout Oakland County. PMB will provide inner City and County Marketing professionals with educational, networking, and leadership opportunities geared towards an effective and united marketing plan to our area of focus, but also, providing an open and equal opportunity to branch out, network, and invite other cities to join in our efforts for effective change.

If you have a passion for community, building, and rebranding if you have vested interested in changing your image or ideas of the City of Pontiac and uniting the surrounding area the Pontiac Marketing and Promotion Bureau can assist this effort. Become a member.

Join us and let's promote the positive of the Great City of Pontiac!

MAY 2021

Dear Supporter and Member:

Opportunity, we just recently learned that the City of Pontiac would receive up to $37.7 million, as a result of the work and efforts of Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence and the Biden Administration. This news comes with a great Opportunity, yes, an Opportunity for our city, our local leaders, and our residents. Opportunities do not always come to us, nor do they always arrive at the right time for us or our City of Pontiac; Therefore, we should welcome this great Opportunity and recognize this is the right time.

This should galvanize our coming together to get alone, work together, and do what is right and good for our city and its residents. We now have the Opportunity to show what working together can do and what is right for our city's future.

  • Yes, Opportunity and Together, we can build a great and modern youth recreation center.
  • Yes, Opportunity and Together we can build a modern, up-to-date, and functional senior citizen facility.
  • Yes, Opportunity and Together we can update our Pontiac Library.
  • Yes, Opportunity and Together we can build a banquet facility in our city.
  • Yes, Opportunity and Together we can fix up our Parks.

We have this Opportunity to use these funds to benefit and better serve our residents and our city. Now, if we can all just get along and do something positive and great for our City, we will make history, so can we come together – Not Me, Not You, but US Together for Pontiac?

A funny thing about Opportunity you must grab it when it comes to you for when it turns away; all you have is I woulda, shoulda, coulda. Let’s not miss this Great Opportunity.

Join us and let's promote the positive of the Great City of Pontiac!

June 2021

Dear Supporter and Member:

Soon the Summer will begin, and we will face the Fall Season. What a Spring this has been, bringing so many changes to all of our lives. I suspect we will remember 2020 and 2021 in one way or another. Some memories good, some bad, some sad, and some happy moments, they all had an impact on us, this was the year of the good, the bad, the ugly that we all had to endure.

There was the Election, the COVID-19 Pandemic, job loss, sickness, death, yet there was love, marriages, new births, and so much to experience. Still, through all of this, there is a brighter day ahead, further up the road and far in the distance we all can and will see the light.

As we face all our tomorrows there is still much HOPE because our GOD is in control. Let us not forget He has kept us and Blessed us through these past twelve months; He is very able and powerful enough to take us to higher heights and Better times. It is God’s wisdom that gives me Hope for our people and our City.

I see a future where Pontiac is no longer called or referred to as, “The Hole In the Donut” . . . But will be seen as, “The Center of It All.” Thriving and growing with great schools, churches, and businesses, where we have unity in the community, filled with prayers, spirituality, great churches, strong families, and business savvy young people.

Where we take our Census to Heart, Black, Brown, Asian, Hmong, White, and we all Vote Yes, Vote early - our most powerful tool next to our Prayers. We are one United for a Greater Pontiac.

I see so much for a city and people that I love and for our children and children’s children. Yes, I speak from my heart because I have found so many friends here and have grown to love so many of you as a Pastor in the City. Pontiac is “The Center of It All,” and I am proud to be a part of it. So, we as a people must move on up the road to a brighter future. Trust God, hold on, be strong, keep the Faith, and always know GOD is in Control. “It is in my Heart,” how do you feel as you face tomorrow??

I’ve got a feeling - Everything Is Gonna Be ALRIGHT!!!

September 2021

Dear Supporter and Member:

LET'S BE REAL!!!

As we look forward to the November 2nd, 2021, Election for Mayor and Council…Let’s be real about our concern, what we need, and the direction of our city.

This election is not about and should not be about COLOR OR ETHNICITY…It should be about moving Pontiac forward, who best can get it done, who has the connections, the Vision, and a real interest in Pontiac, our Residents, our Businesses, and our Schools.

We have in the past and too often Voted on our Friends, Neighbors, Relatives, and our OWN, and we have not been able to turn the Corner to have a plan and vision for all of Pontiac….This does not take away the positive efforts and achievements of my Friends Mayor Walter Moore, Mayor Charlie Harrison, Mayor Deidre Waterman, Mayor Clarence Phillips, Mayor Leon Jukowski, who helped move the needle forward. But now we need change we need more vision more planning and more opportunities- My Friends, It is not about Color, It’s About Progress, Opportunity, Vision, and Growth.

Let’s Make this Election One of Vision, Planning, Growth not Color and Ethnicity.

October 2021

Dear Supporter and Member:

PONTIAC MY CITY MY TOWN

Can I take a minute of your time to speak about my love of and for Pontiac? You remember the song that proclaimed, “My Kind of Town?”

Well, Pontiac is my kind of town…. I was not born in Pontiac or even in the wonderful state of Michigan. I came here with my wife JoAnn and family over thirty years ago. I moved here because of my job and what I later grew to understand.

It was by GOD’s Devine Plan and Direction. It led me to become Pastor of what I believe is one of the greatest churches in the city, state, and country, filled with so many wonderful, loving, and caring people.

I was inspired by Pontiac residents, leaders, business, and educational people who showed love for the city. They were dedicated, committed, engaged, friendly, helpful, and filled with a unique sense of pride.

They were all about Pontiac. I was Welcomed by them, helped by them, and they made me part of their family. They were strong, had a deep sense of their history, they were proud, united, and focused. They raised strong families, raised their kids with respect and pride, loved their schools, OH Boy,

The Huskies, The Chiefs competed and everyone wore their school colors to represent. The friendship they developed at Jefferson, Kennedy, Washington, Madison, Lincoln, Webster, Emerson, Crowfoot, Longfellow, Lebaron, Malcolm, Frost, Alcott, Owen, Walt Whitman, Bethune, WHRC, Edison Perdue, Pontiac Central, and Pontiac Northern were lifelong friends.

Families worked in the Automotive Industry (Plants), local restaurants, St. Joseph, Pontiac General Hospital, Osteopathic Hospital, Jo’s Dairy Queen, Frosty Treat, and of course Wisner Stadium. Pontiac built a unique feeling of belonging for all.

They faced many challenges, issues, setbacks, and disappointments, but they rose to the Challenges and overcame the obstacles. Their stamina, courage, willpower, and determination are what have made Pontiac show Pontiac sphinx pride. I have learned to love and respect their determination and pride, which is visible in their eyes, their conversation, and their reunions.

There is nothing Pontiac cannot do or overcome ask any child, resident, business owner, educator, or government leader. They will say you can never count Pontiac out!!! They know because they believe we will Rise as members of the Pontiac Community………. Full of Pride, Respect, Determination, and Resilience…

Pontiac my kind of Town!!!
